The Mille Lacs Area Tourism Council recently released a new infographic that gives all the interesting details on the revenue generated by one of Minnesota's favorite past times. The infographic, which is posted here on the Mille Lacs Blog, goes into some detail on how anglers spend over $1.8 Billion each year on fishing! This is understandable considering there are almost 5,500 fish-able lakes throughout Minnesota. According to the infographic the entire area of fish able water is greater than the state of Connecticut and its residence pull in almost 19 Million pounds of fish a year.
Mille Lacs, which is one of those 5,500 lakes, is home to over 40 different species of fish and is called the "Walleye Capital."
"We think this is great information to get out there to the public," says a spokesperson from Mille Lacs ATC. The great thing about Minnesota fishing is it's all year round. In the summer it's great to hop on a boat, drift around and fish. In the winter ice fishing in a cozy fish house or out in the snow is fantastic too. It's two very different experiences that Minnesotans love.
About Mille Lacs:
Lake Mille Lacs is Minnesota's second-largest lake and spans a little more than 200 square miles. Mille Lacs' fame as one of the world's most prolific "natural" walleye lakes rests on its ability to produce billions of walleye eggs and fry. Not only is fishing and ice fishing wildly popular, but the vast snowmobile and cross country skiing trails make Mille Lacs an ideal spot for a winter getaway.
