The 8th Annual Robert M. Clinger III Invitational Golf Tournament at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, February 25, 2014-The Executive Committee of the Robert M. Clinger III Invitational Golf Tournament released the results of the 8th annual tournament contested on Monday, February 17, 2014 at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. This year's Invitational set a participation record with seventy-two invitees braving a temperature in the mid-40s with steady winds of up to 20mph. Participants came from throughout the United States and Canada, and from as far away as Denmark and Jakarta, Indonesia for two days of golf, gourmet food, and wine at the famed Dunes Golf & Beach Club.

The defending champions were unable to retain their title, finishing tied for fourth place, and passed the Obelisk of Victory to the winning team consisting of Mike Groce, Andy Groce, Chris Abraham, and Roy Richards. The victors posted a score of 68, four under par. The second place team consisted of Tommy Brittain, David Gravely, Alex Chestnut, and Paul Weddle and finished two under par. The third place team, at one under par, consisted of John Carroll, Tim Wojtick, Tony Mick and Brian Mick.

As a result of the inclement weather conditions, many participants queried if the tournament would be moved to a later date in March for future years to potentially enjoy more favorable conditions. Robert M. Clinger III, founder of the tournament, responded to the suggestions as follows:

"Not going to happen. With this tournament, you never know what you're going to get weatherwise. We've experienced the full spectrum of weather over the years-sunny and warm, mild and sunny, cold and sleet, and now cold and windy. That's part of what makes this tournament what it is. Not only do you have to battle the course, you have to battle the elements and whatever else the golf gods throw at you. For us mere mortals, this course is always going to win whether the conditions are in our favor or not. We just have to come out here and hope to survive with as little damage to our golfing pride as possible. Between the course, the weather, and the format, this tournament really separates the men from the boys. So, no, it's not going to happen."

The 9th Annual Robert M. Clinger III Invitational will be contested on February 16, 2015 at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club.
