Dozens of high-performance cars have been sold within the first three days at the 8th Middle East International Motor Show, organized by the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) that is currently on until December 16 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. Buyers in the region seem to be as fast as the cars they aspire to own, with several cars being reserved for buyers including four Lamborghinis, four Bugattis and four Porsches amongst the most prestigious high performance cars being featured at the showParticipating exhibitors have received a series of inquiries from genuine buyers including deals that are currently in the pipeline.
As many as four of the powerful 1,001 hp Bugatti Veyron 16.4 that has a top speed of 407km/h have now found new national owners, of which it is suggested that three may be housed in the royal garage. At an individual cost of AED 4.33 million (Euros1 million), the choice of colour is important: one red, one blue, one two-tone silver/black and one two-tone ice-blue/white.
At Lamborghini C. K. Ashok, Sales Manager, who has over two decades of experience in Lamborghini sales is delighted to narrate his magnificent sales record, one Murcielago Roadster with a price tag of AED 1.1million on the very first day of the show and another the following day, both to UAE nationals, together with a Gallardo Spyder. “Get one before your neighbour does reads the tag line in their brochure! The car boasts a top speed of 314 km/h with the roof up - but of course! The speed machine covers 0-100 in 3.8 seconds. They have also sold a Gallardo Coupé at a cool AED 745,000, the latter two will be gracing the garages of expatriate UAE residents.
These eye-catching orange and yellow (the most popular colours) mean machines are in demand, no doubt about that - Lamborghini are hoping for at least three more sales if not more before the week is out. The Lamborghinis' success is attributed to the quality and performance of the cars as also the improved after sales facilities now offered in the UAE.
Over at the Porsche stand the mood is similarly upbeat with a total sales of four vehicles, two of which are off-roaders selling for a mere AED 900,000 between them and two more Carrera models going for AED 222,000 and AED 197,000 respectively with blue and black being the favourite colours for the larger models and grey and yellow (those available on the stand) for the Carreras.
Ferrari has only two vehicles on the stand, one of which is a new and unique 4-seater model. Their sales started the day before the 8th Middle East International Motor Show with the sale of one of the new 612 Scaglietti Ferrari with its V12 540 hp engine and AED 990,000 price tag., ceding a few seconds on it's acceleration, due to the extra passenger capacity the Scaglietti still reaches a top speed of 315km/h with an acceleration of 0-100 in 4.2 seconds. Ferrari is in negotiations for another possible sale within the coming days.
The James Bond favourite, Aston Martin stand was a busy one with pre-bookings on a majority of the models. the most popular being the V8 that goes with a price tag starting from AED 480,000. The DB9 Coupe starts from AED 700,000 (one sold) and the DB9 Volonté starting from AED 710,000 (one sold).
Mercedes Benz, the ever-popular brand in this region, is showcasing 17 cars on their stand with the Maybach 62 (AED1.74million) and Maybach 57S (AED1.83million) drawing the maximum attention. While all models have generated a great deal of interest the Maybachs have orders in the pipeline.
From the Range Rover stable, it's the Range Rover Sports 2006 model at AED335, 000 and the Vogue model at AED 355,000 that have been the crowd pullers. While no direct sales take place at the show, bookings have been pouring in, as there is a six-month delivery on all vehicles.
The general feeling amongst all the exhibitors is one of elation. While some have not yet conveyed their sales figures, it would seem that no manufacturer has failed to attract business at this increasingly popular Motor Show which is touted this year as being on a par with the Geneva Motor Show.
The Dubai Motor Show has registered a record 32% surge in exhibitors to cross the 200 mark indicating a strong interest by global manufacturers in the Middle East region and underlining the show’s stature as the Middle East’s most influential and sought after automotive event as exhibitors reported deals and confirmed orders on the first two days of the event.
Buoyed by premium oil revenues the economies in the GCC region are booming, thereby spurring a growth in the automobile industry. The region boasts among the highest cars-per-household ratios in the world.
Entry tickets to the show are priced at AED 15/- per person and the show remains open from 11.00 AM to 10.00 PM from 12th to 15th December and from 3.00 PM to 10.00 PM on Friday (16th December).
