Christmas car criminals

With Christmas approaching, Duck2water Car Insurance warns enthusiastic shoppers to be on their guard against car criminals. It is a time of year when people may well have a lot of expensive items in their car, and opportunist thieves are on the lookout for easy pickings.Police forces all over the country are readying themselves for an influx of reports of car break ins, and have started prevention campaigns in counties across the UK. They advise not to leave anything on display in the car, and not to put shopping in the boot and then return to the shops, as thieves could have their eye on the car and may strike as soon as your back is turned.
In 2004 there were over 2 million car crimes, with in excess of 300 cars being broken to every hour. Some of the property particularly coveted by thieves included stereos, CDs, laptops, GPS, clothes, glasses, mobile phones, and money. This December, it is expected that the XBOX 360 and other gaming systems such as Playstation will be top of the thieves’ Christmas list.
Rebecca Pearson of www.duck2watercarinsurance.co.uk says on car thieves:
“8% of our customers tell us that they have had their cars broken into and property stolen within the last 10 years. Make sure you lock up your car and set the alarm even if you are only going to pop to a parking meter quickly.
If you don’t have an alarm, it is well worth investing in one – after all, you don’t want your car to be the first port of call for a thief on the prowl.”
A survey of motorists by Green Flag Motoring Assistance found that a quarter of young drivers left Christmas presents on display in their car, valuing the contents at up to £150 in many cases. These cars are the most likely to be picked on by criminals – don’t let yours be one of them.
