Friends of Negro Spirituals will present a historic Negro Spirituals concert and fund raiser on Sunday, January 8, 2006, 3 PM, at the Beth Eden Baptist church venue, 1183 10th Street at Adeline in Oakland, CA, featuring the internationally acclaimed singer, storyteller, and historian ODETTA and the electrifying award winner, Chicago based lyric baritone Robert Sims.
Ghanaian Master Drummer, Pope Flyne, will open the program with a drum tribute to the ancestors; and the musically gifted pianist, choral conductor, and educator Jacqueline Hairston will take us back to the yesterday of audiences singing the, irreplaceable songs of the African-American slaves.
Advanced tickets are $25.00 each and $30.00 at the door.
