2014 Top Dentist Brings Microscope Dentistry to the Eastside Seattle Area

Issaquah, WA — Dr. Richard Calvo, DDS, recently selected by his peers as a 2014 Top Dentist in Seattle Met magazine, has announced the opening of his new practice, Eastside Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, which offers a highly beneficial form of dentistry known as microscope dentistry.

Practiced by less than 1 percent of all dentists, microscope dentistry is an innovative and highly scientific form of dental care. This special type of dentistry is proven to lead to the earlier detection of dental problems and to allow for more effective treatments for all types of conditions.

During examinations and procedures, many dentists use magnifying glasses known as dental loupes to make the teeth and gums easier to see. In microscope dentistry, the traditional dental loupes are replaced with a high-powered microscope. With this device, dentists like Dr. Calvo can see a magnified image of the teeth and gums up to 20 times the size of the image produced with dental loupes.

When used as a part of dental treatments, the dental microscope allows Dr. Calvo to work with greater accuracy. Because he can pinpoint the exact area that requires treatment, he is often able to eliminate the use of painful injections into the gums. For cosmetic dentistry procedures, the magnification leads to more natural looking results.

Microscope dentistry requires an advanced level of study that the large majority of dentists do not choose to pursue. Since Dr. Calvo has completed this rigorous training, he is uniquely able to offer microscopic dentistry services to the Eastside Seattle area. Dr. Calvo was selected by his peers to be on the list of 2014 Top Dentists. He is a graduate of the University of Washington and the Creighton University School of Dentistry. To become a specialist in microscope-enhanced dentistry, he completed five years of advanced dental training. Since 2007, he has used microscopes as a part of every dental procedure and is one of only 1 percent of all dentists in the U.S. to perform microscope-enhanced dental services.
