Tucson Embedded Systems Inc has been Awarded a $100,000 SBIR Phase 1 Grant to architect a “plug-and-play” interchangeable Mission Package Infrastructure for the US Navy.

Tucson Embedded Systems Inc, today announced that it has been Awarded a $100,000 SBIR Phase 1 Grant by the US Navy.

“Today a major and costly challenge exists to keep US Navy Ships updated with state of the art defense capabilities,” says David Crowe, President of Tucson Embedded Systems, Inc. “Operating in an era of limited budgets, the US Navy requires a software method to reuse electronics in a plug-and-play fashion without the recurring costs of custom software development each time a system is upgraded like a map or radio. We are helping the US Army integrate such a strategy, so it’s great to begin working with the US Navy”.

Under this grant award Tucson Embedded Systems, Inc. will develop a reusable modular Mission Package Infrastructure that supports the seamless integration of common capabilities across the Naval fleet. The MPI will be safe enough to protect the most mission-critical Navy components. It will also allow the same component to be reused across the Navy's fleet in a plug-and-play fashion saving substantial time and cost.

“Our capabilities driven architecture (CDA) provide a great value for rapid development and supports the certification process of complex architectures”, says Dennis Kenman Tucson Embedded Systems VP of Business Services, “CDA reduces software development time, lowers integration costs, and supports interchangeability and reuse without redevelopment. Future application areas we will explore are Avionics, Automotive, and Homeland Security.”
