June 27, 2013 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Buffalo, NY - After denying the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's request for a 2.7 million vehicle recall, Chrysler Group LLC announced their own product recall on Jeep SUVs worldwide for transmission, restraint and faulty fuel system problems. This vehicle recall involves a number of different makes and models between 2006 and 2013.409,000 Jeep Compass and Patriot SUVs from model years 2010-2012 have a software error that can delay the release time of curtain airbags and seatbelt tightening mechanisms. Dealerships will reprogram the software to fix this problem.
221,000 Jeep Wrangler SUVs with 3.6 liter, V-6 engines from model years 2012 and 2013 have possible transmission cooler line leaks. Dealerships will inspect and replace lines at no cost to owners.
295,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs from model years 2006-2010 can shift into neutral without warning on startup, which can cause the vehicles to roll. Chrysler is informing owners and will be releasing a software update in July to repair this problem. They also found cracks in the circuit boards and will be repairing them at no cost to owners.
After two years of investigation 51 deaths were linked to the defective fuel tanks that caught fire after rear end collisions in the Wrangler models. The Grand Cherokee problem has caused 26 crashes and two injuries.
Starting July 1, 2013, Customers should take their Jeeps in to dealerships for examination.
