Maplewood, New Jersey: A new music CD is now available to help parents talk to their ‘tween-age’ kids, defined as ages 6 – 11. The CD titled “MusicTALKING™: About Goals & Values”, has won three national parenting awards since being introduced in September; the “National Parenting Center 2005 Seal of Approval,” the “iParenting Media Greatest Products of 2005 Award” and the “Parents’ Choice Award.” It can be purchased at a discounted price in honor of receiving these awards and will ship in time for the holidays. The Parents Choice Awards recommended the MusicTALKING CD because it “entertains and teaches with flair, stimulates imagination and inspires creativity.”
The iParenting Media Awards recognized MusicTALKING to have “fun, family-friendly, upbeat original hits by original artists together with a pocket guide containing Talking Tools for conversing with your child using the music and getting the positive message out of each song.”
The National Parenting Center noted that “the people at Laughing Owl have compiled a collection of songs from a variety of eras that are as notable for the stories and lessons that they try to impart as for their melodies…”
Parents will likely recognize several songs on the first album from Laughing Owl Music & Media. The debut CD includes Aretha Franklin’s “Respect” and Bing Crosby’s “Swinging on a Star” together with 11 other original recordings of songs about ambition, character and family.
The goal of the MusicTALKING CDs is to provide parents with an easy ‘door opener’ for discussing important character development and social issues with their children while listening to good, clean music, according to Clyde Otis III, founder of Laughing Owl. Planned future releases will have themes such as Friends & Relationships, Conflicts & Concerns, and Real Life.
Because MusicTALKING promotes conversations between parents and children as a primary benefit, the CD comes with a fun, pocket-sized companion booklet to help guide parents into conversations with their children. It also offers tips, anecdotes, information about the performers and the lyrics for each song.
Otis came up with the idea for MusicTALKING after deciding what was on the market for his own children was either too juvenile, too mature or too violent. Otis is no stranger to the music industry; his father, the senior Clyde Otis, produced 17 consecutive Gold hits while working at Mercury Records in the 1950s and ‘60s.
The Laughing Owl/MusicTALKING slogan sums up the company’s mission: “We promise parents of pre-teens good music, good times, good kids.”
The CD, which makes an ideal holiday gift for parents with tween-age kids, is currently available for $15.00 which includes shipping and handling (normally $18.99 plus shipping and handling) through December 16 only by calling MusicTALKING at 908-964-4600, 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM EST.
