The best way to behave at any social event, especially when it involves people that you may see again (eg. at the office) is to stay sober. However, at holiday time, "people let loose as if they were at home, with friends—sometimes much more than they realize," says Alison Blackman Dunham of the Advice Sisters.Alison, also known as "Advice Sister Alison," is a real-life Carrie Bradshaw who advises men and women around the world about personal marketing, and dispenses advice on her Advice Sisters web sites http://www.advicesisters.net and http://www.advicesisters.com
For those carried away by too much holiday spirit, Alison suggests quiet damage control. Backpeddling and defensive explanations do more harm than good by calling more attention to bad behavior. "Everyone makes mistakes. As long as a person hasn't caused damage to someone's person, property or ego,let the matter drop and just resolve to control your actions next time," she advises.
However, if someone has caused serious damage, "in that case, apologize swiftly and sincerely, offer to make amends best you can, and try to let the matter drop." Alison suggests.
