Asian Pacific American Bar Association of South Florida Receives 2013 Pro Bono Award for Outstanding Bar Association

The Asian Pacific American Bar Association of South Florida (APABA of South Florida) received the 2013 Pro Bono Award for Outstanding Bar Association at the 24th Recognition Luncheon hosted by the Dade County Bar Association and Put Something Back (Dade Legal Aid). APABA was recognized for its support of Dade Legal Aid and the indigent community by staffing pro se clinics, taking cases and hosting a fundraiser. Lisa Hu Barquist, President-Elect of the APABA, echoed current President Stella Chu's words when she accepted the award: "APABA of South Florida is truly honored to receive this award from such a prestigious organization." Hu Barquist will continue to lead the APABA's participation in pro bono efforts when she assumes the presidency in July, 2013. Hu Barquist, a trial attorney at Miami commercial litigation firm Payton & Associates, is fluent in spoken Mandarin, and represents U.S. and Chinese clients in complex business transactional and litigation matters. In addition to her leadership role in the APABA, she is a member of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and chairwoman ex officio of the Miami-Dade County Asian American Advisory Board. Lisa was appointed to serve on the Florida Bar's Civil Procedure Rules Committee for a three-year term beginning in July, 2013. She is admitted to practice in Florida, New York, California, and Washington, D.C.
