NASHUA, N.H., May 15, 2013 — Four decades removed from its debut as a high-performance prototype at the Frankfurt International Auto Show, the Porsche 911 Turbo is entering a new generation with even more power and improved fuel efficiency. Recently revealed with an updated engine and a refined PDK automatic transmission, the 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo will be capable of sprinting from zero to 60 mph in less than 3 seconds when it goes on sale at the end of this year. The new Porsche 911 Turbo will feature a 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 520 horsepower in standard form, an improvement of 20 horsepower compared to the outgoing model, while the output of the 911 Turbo S will rise by 30 horsepower to reach 560 horsepower. Those increases in power will help the 911 Turbo and Turbo S achieve impressive 0 - 60 mph times of 3.2 seconds and 2.9 seconds, respectively, while fuel economy is expected to increase thanks to the use of auto start-stop technology and a thermal-management system.
"For luxury buyers who want a car with astounding performance that is still usable and comfortable during the daily drive, there is nothing else out there like the Porsche 911 Turbo," said Larry Bedell, general manager of Porsche of Nashua, a Porsche dealer in New Hampshire. "While the new generation looks incredible on paper with its eye-popping specs, it is really the intangibles that make the 2014 911 Turbo such a dynamic, exhilarating ride."
Porsche has outfitted its 2014 911 Turbo with a new all-wheel-drive system that features electro-hydraulic control to send more drive torque to the front wheels. Meanwhile, the introduction of rear-wheel steering significantly improves cornering and steering response, and an active aerodynamics system consisting of a retractable three-stage front spoiler and a deployable rear wing further augments the sports car's performance and fuel efficiency.
Inside, buyers of the Porsche 911 Turbo S will find a new, exclusive black/Carrera red color option and 18-way adjustable sport seats with memory settings. Like the previous generation, 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo models will come standard with a Bose premium sound system; however, drivers can now upgrade to a Burmester system to bring out the very best of their favorite tunes. Other new technology options include camera-based road-sign recognition, a radar-controlled cruise control system and speed limit recognition.
"The new Porsche 911 Turbo is built to be an extremely aggressive sports car on the road and track, but inside the cabin, buyers will find that it is as refined and technologically advanced as a luxury sports sedan," added Bedell. "It may be unforgiving when it's leaving other cars in its rearview mirror, but the Porsche 911 Turbo is very welcoming on the inside."
