Online Health Prevention: Completely Individual and Professional Nutrition Programs
November 25, 2005 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News
With its LifeSensor Nutrition Assistant, InterComponentWare AG (ICW) presents a novel additional module for its web-based health record at the MEDICA 2005. The unique Nutrition Assistant completes the chain of online health care: health data, special add-ons for diabetics and cancer patients, a digital Fitness Assistant and now the Nutrition Assistant enable comprehensive prevention and health management with the LifeSensor health record. The new LifeSensor Nutrition Assistant supports the design of personalized nutrition programs that do not orient themselves on standardized templates but instead on individual factors like age, gender, weight and physical activity. By considering the health and fitness data contained in LifeSensor, it is now possible to compile the optimum nutrition program for each individual goal.
A professional access provides nutritionists with ready-made nutrition programs for different clinical pictures and nutrition goals, which consider the specifications of the German Nutrition Society (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ernährung) among other things. With just a few mouse clicks, these can be adapted to the individual situation of each client. Of course, they can also generate completely new nutrition programs to suit the requirements of their patients.
So far unique and patent-pending:
Using limit values for ingredients, the nutritionist can specify the suitable foods for each individual client and also which ones he or she should not consume at all or only in slight quantities. According to their classification, the foods are then marked like a traffic light with red, yellow or green.
Then the nutritionist copies the completed nutrition program into his client's personal web-based health record. This is then available online anywhere and anytime. In his nutrition diary, the client records the food he has consumed. A database containing the composition of over 6,500 foods – among them also convenience foods – is available for this purpose. The nutritionist can view the entered information online and perform nominal/actual comparisons in table or graphic form at any time. If necessary, he can contact his patient or adjust the nutrition program in his record.
This new tool lets nutritionists perform complete remote patient monitoring for the first time, because the nutrition plans as well as the professional access are available anywhere and anytime.
Individuals can also easily analyze their eating habits with the new Nutrition Assistant, obtain information about possible malnutrition and improve their individual daily diet. In addition, the Assistant also supports complete diet programs.
