Porsche Unveils Most Powerful Naturally Aspirated 911 Yet

NASHUA, N.H., March 14, 2013 — Porsche is in the midst of celebrating the 50th anniversary of its iconic 911 sports car, and to commemorate that milestone, the luxury automaker will be launching the most powerful naturally aspirated version of the vehicle yet. Unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show last week, the 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 houses a new 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine that will treat buyers to 475 horsepower when it goes on sale late in 2013.The fifth-generation 911 GT3 makes the most of its copious output with a new dual-clutch PDK transmission and a lightweight-yet-strong body composed of steel and aluminum. That advanced technology allows the top-trim 911 to reach 60 mph from a standstill in just 3.3 seconds and a top track speed of 195 mph. Meanwhile, handling has been improved with the first-ever application of active rear-wheel steering in a Porsche.
"The new 911 GT3 lapped Germany's infamous Nurburgring track in less than 7 minutes and 30 seconds, which is something that very few sports cars have accomplished," said Larry Bedell, general manager of Porsche of Nashua, a New Hampshire Porsche dealer. "Porsche has once again raised the bar for what driving enthusiasts can pull off at the track, and the 911 GT3 comes with all of the interior refinement to make it just as enjoyable on roads."
Another recently redesigned Porsche sports car, the 2013 Boxster, continues to attract new buyers at dealerships. With 391 units sold in the United States in February, the Porsche Boxster saw a tenfold sales increase compared to the same month last year. The latest generation of the Boxster is lighter and more fuel efficient, thanks to a new body and advanced engine technology, yet it still manages to offer more power than its predecessor.
While Porsche remains focused on pushing the limits of its sports cars, its expansion into the SUV market during the past decade continues to pay dividends. The Porsche Cayenne moved 1,173 models last month, a 79 percent increase compared to February 2012. That impressive performance helped the luxury brand's overall sales rise by 31 percent year-over-year in February, with 2,805 total units sold.
"By applying its experience in building unmatched sports cars to the SUV market, Porsche is able to attract more sales that it can invest back into developing even more progressive sports cars, so it's a win-win situation for all fans of the brand," added Bedell. "That means that SUV buyers can find an extremely engaging ride with the Cayenne, while sports-car purists can look forward to Porsche pushing the envelope for many years to come."
