Ol "Ewe" Eyes Is Back

Long before the Muppet's Miss Piggy hogged the spotlight, Lambchop® was a much-loved star. For decades she was the flirtatious femme fatale of fauna; a fixture on television, loved by kids and adults, alike. Then Lambchop lost her mom and performing partner, Shari Lewis.

Lewis was a remarkably talented performer; a storyteller, ventriloquist and musician who gave birth to Lambchop nearly 50 years ago. She lost her life to uterine cancer, at 65, in 1998.

When that happened, Lambchop lost her voice, she was empty. Without her mom, what was a little lamb to do? Then her younger sister, Mallory, stepped in.

Despite some sibling rivalry — they're guilty of mom-liked-you-best squabbling of Smothers Brothers' proportion — the two sisters tentatively began performing together. Since then, Mally Lewis and Lambchop have become quite the act.

Now, the sisters are celebrating Lambchop's triumphant return to Vegas, where they'll be performing and accepting awards in Lambchop's and Shari Lewis' honor, from the Las Vegas Jewish Center for Education, Media & the Arts, November 20th at the Summerlin Theater.

Lambchop's comeback kicks off Southern Nevada Jewish Book Month in Las Vegas. Along with accepting her award (from another well-known Vegas performer) Lambchop will perform for the kids (and kids at heart, who remember Shari Lewis so fondly) as well as introducing the afternoon's feature, Punch & Judaism, with another renowned puppeteer and Jewish storyteller, Chicago's Marilyn Price.

Price is a nationally known performer who uses whimsical puppets, "to promote Judaism to everybody, even those who don't yet care." She brings Nerf balls, feather dusters, toilet paper tubes and baby sleepers to life; even a talking latke helps tell her stories.

Lambchop's dramatic return to Las Vegas, and the performance by Marilyn Price, is cosponsored by the Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada and Las Vegas Jewish Center for Education, Media & Arts, to launch Jewish Book Month. The show begins 1:45PM on Sunday, November 20th, 2005 at the Summerlin Theater, at the Summerlin Library, 1771 Inner Circle Drive (intersection of Village Center Circle and Library Hills Drive, where N Town Center Drive ends) in Summerlin.

For tickets and more information, call the Jewish Community Center at (702) 794.0090.
