Holy Smokes, Batman: Comic-Inspired Kia Optima Hits SEMA Show

MILWAUKEE, Wis., Nov. 2, 2012 — Batman already has one of the coolest cars in comics, but he may want to trade in for a new 2013 Kia Optima SX Limited once he sees the automaker's Batman-inspired version. After teaming up with DC Entertainment and Rides magazine, Kia debuted a top-trim Optima tricked out in true caped crusader style in New York City earlier this month. Based on the art of comic-book illustrator Jim Lee, the customized Optima combines sleek lines with Batman's aggressive personality.Matte- and piano-black paint covers the exterior of the special Optima for a stealthy appearance, while HID headlights etched with the iconic bat symbol light the way. Adding to those dark and mysterious visuals are custom 20-inch black wheels, yellow LED underbody lights, a lowered suspension and a custom batwing-shaped grille. Meanwhile, Ksport performance brakes and a performance exhaust system guarantee that Mr. Wayne has the stopping power and aggressive sound needed when chasing down the Joker or Two-Face.
"The Kia Optima SX Limited is an ideal alternative to the Batmobile because it already has a sophisticated and stylish look that suits Bruce Wayne, and you can tell there's something more underneath," said Jeff Rosen, general manager of Milwaukee, Wisconsin Kia dealer Rosen Kia Milwaukee. "With a little modification, the Optima can be just as intimidating and athletic as the Dark Knight."
Inside, black leather-and-suede seats with yellow stitching continue the Batman color scheme, and bat logos on the seatbacks mark the superhero's territory. To ensure that Gotham City's savior can spring into action at a moment's notice, a Batsuit is stored in the trunk, while utility throwing stars are kept in the center console for quick access in case of a sudden attack.
Though Batman was the first DC Entertainment superhero to take over a Kia, he had some company join him in Las Vegas this week. Four more Justice League-themed Kia models teamed with Batman's Optima at the 2012 SEMA Show, including two creations from West Coast Customs: a Kia Forte Koup inspired by The Flash and an Aquaman-ready Kia Rio 5-Door. For fans of the Green Lantern, Super Street magazine customized a Kia Soul in honor of the comic book, while Rides magazine showed off a Cyborg-styled Kia Forte 5-Door. Three additional Justice League members, including Superman and Wonder Woman, will be getting the Kia treatment as well in the coming months.
While the Justice League Kia models were created in good fun, they are also being used to support DC Entertainment's We Can Be Heroes campaign to fight hunger in the Horn of Africa. The area is facing its worst drought in 60 years, creating a severe hunger crisis and prompting the United Nations to declare a famine for the first time in more than 20 years. DC Entertainment will match 100 percent of donations to the We Can Be Heroes program, which supports Save the Children, the International Rescue Committee and Mercy Corps for relief in the area. Donations can be made at https://donate.wecanbeheroes.org.
"The Justice League has been a force for good since its inception, and now Kia has joined the team to help raise awareness about the devastating situation in Africa," added Rosen. "By bringing attention to DC Entertainment's efforts, the automaker is giving back to the global community and providing aid to those who need it most."
