Nigella Lawson has been showing her Twitter followers that eating smaller portions but still enjoying real food can be a good way for people to lose weight. The TV chef, who is known for her curvy figure, has recently slimmed down from a size 16 to a size 12 and it seems portion control could be the secret to her success. She regularly tweets pictures of her meals to her 227,041 followers and although she tucks into steak, fried egg sandwiches and pizza, she has small portions to prevent her from gaining weight.
One picture shows a steak with Bearnaise sauce, accompanied by the caption "Grabbing lunch out between interviews. You have no idea how much I need this steak!" However, Nigella exercised portion control by only having four chips with her meat. Another tweet shows a lunch consisting of an avocado drizzled with lemon juice.
Before she started losing weight last year, Nigella stated in an interview: "'I love food and I love cooking so therefore I never deprive myself." Therefore it seems as though portion control is just the way you can have your cake and eat it … just less of it!
Caron Leckie, Nutritionist from Diet Chef said, 'Bigger portion sizes are a major contributor to being overweight or obese and can also be the demise of our efforts to try and lose weight. It's very common for us to know 'what' to eat but putting that into practise and getting the portions right can be the biggest challenge'
