2013 Audi A4 Leads Automaker to Best-Ever August Sales

NASHUA, N.H., Sept. 27, 2012 — Audi's best-selling vehicle, the A4 luxury sedan, was refreshed for the 2013 model year, and the new offering has given the automaker's U.S. sales a big boost since arriving in late May. Sales of the Audi A4 were up nearly 22 percent in August compared to the same month last year, helping the lineup's overall sales increase 13 percent and set a 20th consecutive monthly record.Luxury buyers appear to be attracted to the more aggressive styling of the 2013 Audi A4, which includes sharper lines, wider air intakes and new or revised designs for the hood, grille and bumpers. The latest version of Audi's popular compact also features styled LED daytime running lights, while upgrades inside the cabin include chrome accents and the choice of black, Titanium Grey, Chestnut Brown or Velvet Beige leather upholstery.
"The changes to the Audi A4 for the 2013 model year have really connected with buyers, as they realize that it offers a higher quality package than offerings from BMW or Mercedes-Benz," said Larry Bedell, general manager of Audi of Nashua, an Audi dealer in New Hampshire. "The new A4 not only includes superior performance, style and comfort, but more sophisticated in-car technology as well."
As part of its mid-cycle refresh, the 2013 A4 received improvements to its optional Audi MMI Navigation plus system, including new controls and Audi connect, which integrates Google Maps into turn-by-turn directions and enables Google search for retrieving other pertinent travel information. Buyers that opt for Audi connect can also transform their A4 into a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to eight wireless devices.
Even with a new model now at dealerships, the 2012 Audi A4 continues to earn industry accolades, recently topping the Near-Luxury Car segment in Strategic Vision's 2012 Total Quality Index (TQI). The automotive researcher's study used feedback from more than 45,000 buyers of 2012-model-year vehicles to determine which rides produce the quality experiences that best meet the desires of their owners.
Strategic Vision ranked each vehicle on a 1,000-point scale in its TQI, and the Audi A4 bested its class competitors with a score of 917. Meanwhile, the larger, flagship Audi A8 reached 942 points, which not only led the Luxury Car segment, but every other vehicle in the study as well. Propelled by the strength of its A4 and A8, Audi was also the highest ranked auto brand in the 2012 TQI, scoring 918 points.
"It's true that luxury car buyers pay for higher quality materials and world-class drivetrains, but what they really want is an unmatched overall driving experience, and the TQI shows that Audi does a better job at delivering just that," Bedell noted. "While other luxury automakers rely on the badge on the front of their cars, Audi is constantly working to build more pleasurable rides."
