In a race to create the world's thinnest ballpoint pen, the Mitsubishi Pencil Company launched the Uni Ball Signo Bit 0.18mm series of ballpoint pens earlier this year. The tip of the pen is roughly the width of two human hairs, and can be used to write on a grain of uncooked rice. In order for the ball to rotate, Mitsubishi developed proprietary ink that reduces friction. The pens are wildly popular in Japan, having sold over 4 million units.

"The tips of Signo Bit pens are significantly thinner than the pens that previously held the world's thinnest title, the Pilot Hi-Tec-C pens, at 0.25 mm," said Adrian Mak, JetPens co-founder. "We are thrilled to bring the very best in Japanese innovation to consumers in North America who, until recently, had little choice but to use standard sized ballpoint pens."

"These pens make great gifts for artists who do detailed drawings or for those who simply appreciate great detail in their daily lives."

JetPens was the first retailer to introduce the Signo Bit pens to the North American market, and as of press date, they remain generally unavailable in stationery and office supply stores. The 8-color set of pens comes with a plastic carrying case, and retails for $25 at www.jetpens.com.
