VegNews, America’s premier vegetarian lifestyle magazine, announces Liz Lovely as the Product of the Year in the 2005 Veggie Awards. With their team of editors and readers searching for this year’s top veg products, people and places in over 70 categories, this annual survey is the largest of its kind in the world. The awards showcase the best of vegetarian in categories ranging from soymilk, veggie burger and restaurant to celebrity, website and even most veg-friendly city.

“Liz Lovely is a leader in the natural food industry and continues to develop high-quality vegetarian products. We are pleased to honor your accomplishments with a Veggie Award,” said Publisher Joseph Connelly.

From their pastoral location in Vermont’s Mad River Valley, Liz Lovely bakes artisan, handmade cookies all Certified Vegan by Vegan Action (www.vegan.org). While these cookies are a healthier alternative (free of trans fats and cholesterol, and low in sodium and saturated fat) they are convincing in flavor or texture. Liz Lovely has attracted a substantial following outside vegetarian and vegan circles with their drizzled chocolate and intense flavor combinations. The varieties include Cowboy Cookies, Cowgirl Cookies, Peanut Butter Classics and Ginger Snapdragons. A new variety, Frontier Cookies, will be released in January.

The VegNews Veggie Awards (http://vegnews.com/veggieawards_2005.html) recognize excellence in the vegetarian industry. VegNews’ editors test hundreds of vegetarian products throughout the year and compile their top choices in this annual edition of the magazine. Also included are picks by over 10,000 readers, who submit ballots in July and August. The annual celebration of the best that veg living has to offer has become the most popular feature in the publication. The issue is currently available on newsstands everywhere and through the magazine’s website, vegnews.com.

Liz Lovely, Inc. is the creation of Liz and Dan Holtz, dot-com refugees who surrendered to their primal passion for sugar and chocolate in 2003. After baking and shipping 1000’s of cookies from a small kitchen in Wynnewood, PA, they relocated to Vermont and signed up with United Natural Foods, the largest U.S. distributor of natural foods. Their cookies are now available in over 350 retail locations in the Eastern and Central United States, as well as online through their preferred online retailer CosmosVeganShoppe.com.
