State of Michigan Basic Driver Improvement Course provider, EIP Michigan, has demonstrated the benefits of completing the Michigan BDIC for both students and their auto insurance providers. The Basic Driver Improvement Course (BDIC) is a defensive driving course offered in a classroom or online setting. Drivers enrolled in the BDIC course learn about defensive driving strategies and techniques to reduce the likelihood of auto collisions, as well as the impact of physical conditions and emotions on driving.
As of 2010, Michigan drivers who receive a traffic ticket may be eligible to complete the BDIC and avoid having points and information about the violation transferred to their driving record or disclosed to insurance companies.
Participation in the BDIC has proven to be a win-win for Michigan drivers who save money by avoiding increased insurance rates and driver responsibility fees.
An independent study has shown positive results for drivers that have participated in and successfully passed a Basic Driver Improvement Course. Over 70% of the drivers who participated in a driver safety training program had zero future collisions and violations over a nine-year period.
With an emphasis on driver safety awareness, EIP Michigan's Basic Driver Improvement Course has left an impact on past students that will help them stay safe on the road in the future.
Currently, the BDIC is available through service providers approved by the Michigan Department of State.
