Falmouth harbour is buzzing in anticipation of the 2012 Pendennis Cup, which is due to commence on Monday July 2nd.
 
The regatta, organised by the Falmouth-based Pendennis Shipyard every two years, will feature four days of competitive action involving 14 classic and modern sailing yachts.
 
Spectators can look forward to viewing an impressive fleet of superyachts that collectively measure over 450 metres in length, with the largest vessel coming in at 62 metres.
 
The list of confirmed entrants includes the 1911 yacht Mariquita and Mikado, which was built in 1904.
 
With a dramatic backdrop provided by the coastline surrounding Falmouth, the event promises to offer a memorable spectacle for sailing fans visiting the Cornish port.
 
The castles of Pendennis and St Mawes, which overlook the entrance to the harbour, create a visually impressive finish line for each race.
 
As well as the action in the water, there will be a full programme of onshore events that includes live music from local bands and a presentation evening at Pendennis Castle.
