Olympia, WA – In recognition of its socially welcoming work culture, Eden Advanced Pest Technologies was honored with the "Solidarity Award" at the Business Examiner's 2012 Top Places to Work event this year.

The award is given annually to a company in the South Puget Sound area that exhibits a strong sense of team or family and allows its employees to be authentic and genuine as individuals. Eden, a family-owned Northwest pest control company, has long promoted leadership and development among its employees through team-oriented training and engagement programs.

In addition to winning the award, Eden was a finalist for the title of 2012 Top Place to Work in the medium-sized business category for companies with 50-99 employees.

"We are committed to providing exceptional customer service, and we believe fulfilled employees create satisfied customers," said Jen Marlowe McCauley, Eden Advanced Pest Technologies marketing director. "We're committed to providing the best work environment possible for our 'internal clients,' without whom we could not succeed."

Founded in 1986 by Jack Marlowe, Eden pioneers environmentally friendly solutions to pest control problems, including the use of Integrated Pest Management techniques to control infestations. The company has become a leader in the pest management industry, participating in organizations such as the Washington State Pest Control Association and the National Pest Management Association.

As a pest control firm offering green solutions, Eden emphasizes creative approaches to pest problems, including an innovative bird abatement program that encompasses a variety of humane yet effective bird control techniques. To help Northwest homeowners prepare for this summer's influx of feathered pests, Eden has issued the following warnings:

Birds can damage your home. Birds may seem harmless and can be fun to watch, but in large numbers they can actually damage your home. For example, bird droppings can soil windows and eat away at paint.

Watch out for secondary infestations. When birds nest in or on your home, they often bring with them secondary pests such as carpet beetles (dermestidae) and bird mites, which can infest your home.

Bird nests are a fire hazard. When birds roost in attics and on top of light fixtures, their nests can pose a fire hazard. This is especially true for starlings, which can produce huge nests if allowed to nest in the same spot repeatedly.
