SEATTLE, April 6, 2012 — It's official: the BuddyTV Guide, the free top-rated television guide app from BuddyTV, is the Best Simple and Best Discovery second-screen application on the market, having been awarded these honors by the panel of technology experts and audience members at the first annual 2nd Screen Summit, a meeting of industry leaders in social and smart TV apps sponsored by the Media & Entertainment Services Alliance.Among the ten apps in the competition, the BuddyTV Guide was the only app to take home two honors among the competition's five specific categories (Simple, Social, Seamless, Stimulating and Discovery), and one of just two apps to win two honors overall. The BuddyTV Guide also placed close seconds for Best Seamless and Best Overall.
BuddyTV created the BuddyTV Guide as part of their mission to help users discover their must-see TV and manage their entire television viewing lifestyle on their second-screen, all the way down to the ability to change the channel on their smart devices. The BuddyTV Guide creates a personalized channel guide by combining the user's picks with curated recommendations, integrating alternative video options like Netflix, Amazon Instant and DVR, and allowing the user to filter by program type or mood, what's trending at the moment or what's playing among their favorite shows and channels. Users with compatible devices can simply tap once to tune in, using the BuddyTV Guide itself as the remote. The result is a content-rich experience that increases choice without sacrificing simplicity, allowing the user to spend less time sifting through options, and more time enjoying the show.
"BuddyTV has been setting the gold standard for simple second screen features (the ability to control your first screen) in the marketplace for years," 2nd Screen Summit Chairman Chuck Parker reflected on MESA's blog after the awards, noting that the BuddyTV Guide was awarded Best in Simple thanks to "its quick and very relevant ability to help the consumer find content from their second screen and make it effortlessly appear on their TV."
With a recent study showing that 86% of mobile internet users access smartphones and tablets while watching TV, the BuddyTV Guide is leading the way in helping these millions of second-screen users find new and interesting recommendations and instantly deliver that content directly to their TV screens. The BuddyTV Guide also includes detailed scheduling information, entertaining articles and slideshows and social features, giving users the abilities to read about the show, chat with other fans and post comments directly to Facebook or Twitter, all inside the app while they watch.
The BuddyTV Guide is available for free for iOS devices in the iTunes store and for Android and GoogleTV devices in the Google Play marketplace. The BuddyTV Guide remote feature works with AT&T U-verse receivers, DirecTV DVRs, Sony Internet TV with Google TV, Logitech Revue, TiVo Series 3, TiVo Premier, any devices controlled by Google TV, and Samsung Smart TVs, with more service providers on the way.
