01 Communique Files Patent Application for its Remote PC Wake-Up Technology

TORONTO, ON – 01 Communique Laboratory Inc. (TSX: ONE – www.01com.com), a leading remote access solutions provider, announced it has filed a patent application for its remote Personal Computer (PC) wake-up technology. This technology provides for remote-booting of a turned-off desktop PC, which allows a PC that is “shutdown” at the office to be remotely started. With the ability to “wake-up” a PC, this technology eliminates the need for leaving your desktop PC turned-on while away, in order to be able to access it from a remote location.

In a report on the Remote Access Services Market dated February 2005, Stephen Drake, an analyst with IDC, commented that, “This inherent need to keep a PC on and running to access files also raises a number of security concerns for organizations, which include access issues….” The new technology addresses these concerns and is of particular importance to corporations with extremely stringent security policies, requiring that unattended PCs be “shut down” or put into “sleep/stand-by” mode when an employee leaves the office. It is also of importance to environmentally conscious organizations that are concerned about energy consumption of PCs left powered on for extended periods of time.

The patent application relates to a system, method and computer program for remotely sending a digital signal(s) to a computer.
