Hazel Meadows was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, the eldest of seven children. She was educated at the University of Akron, majoring in community science technology and writing.

Ms. Meadows is the author and photographer of her first children's book. She is the grandmother of six grandchildren and currently lives with her family in Columbus, Ohio.
