IntelliNet and Wavion Successfully Complete Interoperability Testing of End-to-end Wi-Fi Data Offload Solution

IntelliNet Technologies, a leading provider of mobile data offload solutions, announced that it has recently successfully completed interoperability testing between IntelliNet's Wireless Services Gateway and Wavion's Beamforming-based Wi-Fi Base Stations. The testing demonstrated the seamless and secure transfer of a 3G data session from the licensed 3G network to a Wi-Fi Network.

The IntelliNet Wireless Services Gateway (WSG) is a carrier-grade platform that supports the 3GPP Interworking Wireless LAN (I-WLAN) standard for interworking between cellular networks and Wi-Fi access points. The WSG builds routing intelligence on traffic from a Wi-Fi path based on operator-provided policy. The traffic can be extended either to the cellular core network or to the Internet. Since the operator's core network requires trusted device access, the WSG also enables authentication to the core network and secure transport access.

The 3GPP Interworking WLAN for Data Offload (I-WLAN) standard introduced the specifications for interworking of WLAN with cellular networks. These standards continue the progression to enabling WLAN connectivity to the evolved packet core for LTE-4G networks. The standards-based infrastructure makes a compelling case to support the infrastructure for the data offload path. I-WLAN was carefully designed to support rich data services such as streaming audio and video over the unlicensed spectrum. The fundamental bridge that I-WLAN provides is to build a trusted relation between a non-cellular entity and the core network.
