The Glow Company Break World Record for Longest Glow Necklace

The Glow Company have helped set a new record for the world's longest glow necklace. In the capable hands of the UK's most successful 'stand-up scientist', Brainiac and Blue Peter's Dr Bunhead, special chemicals supplied by The Glow Company were mixed to create a glowing necklace measuring a huge 324.75m (1065 ft) – as long as three football pitches!

The record was set on Saturday 9th April in the course of Dr Bunhead's Pyromania stage show at the Edinburgh Science Festival. A 1,200-strong audience was present at Edinburgh's Usher Hall, some of whom were chosen to help the Doctor in his record-breaking bid. One hundred fans, including Glow Company competition winner Sorcha Ni Chroinin and her guests, joined Dr Bunhead (a.k.a. former science teacher Tom Pringle) on stage to handle the enormous luminous necklace.

The audience watched as the ready-mixed glowing fluid was then drawn through the long tube using a small vacuum pump. Once they had finished, Guinness World Record's official adjudicator used a trundle wheel to take an accurate measurement of the necklace – no mean feat, given that it was over a fifth of a mile long!

All audience participants received a free (normal sized) glow necklace and a 6-inch glow stick as a souvenir of the event, courtesy of the Glow Company.
