Set to take place Oct. 19-21 at the Renaissance Hotel, the conference and the programs are designed to benefit a broad range of service providers in fields related to HIV/AIDS and STDs as well as those working in educational institutions. “I am very delighted the Illinois Department of Health has recognized this film as a tool for AIDS education and awareness. This would not have been possible without the support of BET, the Black Aids Institute and the Kaiser Family Foundation. The film speaks to the AIDS epidemic and its impact,” said Taylor.
Winner of the BET Rap-It-Up/Black Aids Short Film Competition “Walking on Sunshine” was recently nominated for a 2005 Annual Image Award in the category of Outstanding Television Movie, Mini-Series or Dramatic Special and since, has won the 2005 Cable Positive award for best “Outstanding Original Movie” and awarded the 2005 San Francisco Black Film Festival prize for best “Contemporary Issue.” Taylor is currently touring schools, festivals and conferences screening the film.
“This movie shows you what can happen to you if you make the wrong decision. ‘Walking on Sunshine’ is about the possibilities of what can happen to you if you put yourself as risk. In a relationship, you have to ask questions of your partners and ask yourself if the decision you are about to make about your health is important to you,” said Taylor.
