Silhouette Joins Elsie Katz Couture On The Catwalk2006 Sunglass Collection Spotlighted During Spring Preview At Mercedes Benz Fashion Week
Los Angeles, CA – Elsie Katz Couture spotlighted several selections from Silhouette’s newest sunglass line on the catwalk while presenting their Spring 2006 collection during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. The collection celebrates the woman who is at ease with herself loves being feminine.
“I’m always inspired to make something that is artistic in its look and perfectly crafted inside and out,” said Donna Baxter, owner and designer of Elsie Katz Couture. “Silhouette’s designs, like my own, communicate a personal style all their own. They are a great complement for my new spring collection and I am delighted to have them as part of my show.”
The designer was kind enough to share her thoughts on other aspects of sunglasses, and Silhouette in particular…
Q: Sunglasses have become as much of an accessory item within a woman's wardrobe as belts and handbags. Having a selection of multiple sunglasses is de rigueur. What should women look for when choosing sunglasses to complement their wardrobes? What should they look for when they want something a bit more daring and dramatic?
Donna Baxter: When choosing a sunglass for my wardrobe, I always select a classic black and a classic tortoise shell. That way all of my bases are covered. But when I am feeling SASSY, I choose something with stones on the rims or a rim with a frosted or metallic finish.
Q: Can you offer any "fashion don'ts" when it comes to sunglasses?
Donna Baxter: My only rule on sunglasses is to try to avoid looking like an insect or a member of the band "Devo". Not that insects and Devo aren't cool, but it's a pretty specialized look that's hard to pull off unless you really are a bug or are Mark Mothersbaugh.
Q: What aspects of design do you take into account when you are looking for the perfect pair of sunglasses for your own personal use?
Donna Baxter: My biggest peeve is sunglasses that don't block out the sun. I always go for glasses that shield my eyes. I think in a past life I was a mole, or a vampire, as I am really sensitive to sunlight, so eye protection is key. Style is a close second. I am drawn to wide frames with that vintage Hollywood glam look, very Greta Garbo. Silhouette makes a great “retro line” that has the perfect pair of glossy wide black frame glasses. But for really girly girls, they also make a pair in the most beautiful pearlized pink. I just want to eat them up!
The Silhouette 2006 sun collection is comprised of three lines and 12 different models in eight colours; each with four lens options. Au Courant, the rimless and hinged synthetic models offer a sleek, modern feel. The unabashedly sexy Diva line is destined to make a confident, unmistakably chic statement; while the iconic Titan Minimal Art line continues to set the standard for rimless, hingeless frames. In each of these lines, their beauty and perfection are unmatched – and their weightless feel unparalleled. The precision of each design offers a perfect fit and a unique individualized solution for every lifestyle need.
With these three distinct collections come four ideal lenses, each scientifically formulated for maximum performance. Ideal POL are polarized lenses which eliminate reflection and bothersome glare on the water and are perfect for driving as well. Ideal Protection lens absorbs 96.5% of blue light, which can be harmful to the eye. The Ideal Golf lens is customized for the specific visual requirements of golfers. Finally, there is Ideal Image, this lens is for the highly fashionable consumer, available in four high fashion metallic colours: mauve, petrol, grey and green.
Au Courant
The Au Courant models make anyone shine like a star. Cool, sleek and modern, they are constructed of titanium and SPX, and are available in a range of eight colours and four new lens shapes.
