The disposable patch will automatically draw a new blood sample at a predetermined time. This same patch will have the capability of performing a blood test on the new sample of the patient’s blood. Once the blood test has been completed, the results can be communicated to a data storage device. Coupling this with the Medipacs infusion device, the appropriate levels of drug can be dispensed to the patient. The new technology will simplify a complex three-step-process into one device. The vision is to improve the patient’s ability to monitor and deliver the appropriate levels of drug at the right time.

The first application is focused on the diabetic patient. Medipacs disposable glucose monitoring patch is targeted to overcome the technical barriers associated with monitoring a patient’s glucose level and delivering insulin as needed. Medipacs is working to develop patch configurations that will last 24, 48 and 72 hours.

“The 72 Hour Disposable Glucose Patch is an exciting application of our Medipacs technology. This integrated solution has the ability to make a significant difference in the patient care of a diabetic” explains Marie Wesselhoft, Director of Business Development at Medipacs.

Medipacs, a Tucson AZ. biotech company that is developing advanced infusion technologies, recently unveiled the first Digital PumpTM and is now focusing on its first commercial application, a programmable disposable infusion pump. The first application is for a market of over ONE MILLION INFUSIONS that take place every day in the United States.
