According to the venue, MES 56 have set out to question the role of photography plays in demonstrating what is really going on at any given moment, while also looking to encourage people to think of the field as art rather than a form of journalism.

Each member of the collective has considered their own relationship with the medium - including how they define it - and has come up with a series of shots that demonstrate the ease with which reality can be played with.

Pictures focus on a variety of subjects found in people's everyday lives, including objects and still life to landscapes and architecture.

"In exploring the possibility of breaking the limit of a camera and the definition of its function, this artist collective is setting its foot as an influential group in the Indonesian contemporary visual art scene," the organisers remarked.

On Camera replaced Angelo Bellobono's Eastside - the journey display at the Biasa Art Space.
