LateRooms.com - Lake District cinema to host live screening of Fela!

LateRooms.com reports Ambleside's Zeffirellis cinema has lined up a special treat for theatre-goers and fans of world music next month.

On Thursday January 13th, the Lake District venue will take part in the National Theatre Live season by screening a performance of the award-winning musical Fela! from London.

Based on the eventful life of the pioneering Nigerian musician and activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti, the show has already enjoyed acclaimed runs on Broadway and in the West End.

As part of National Theatre Live, it will be broadcast simultaneously to cinemas around the UK and worldwide as the cast members perform on stage in the UK capital.

The Evening Standard has described Fela! as "a bold new direction for musical theatre", while the Guardian praised the "kaleidoscopic" nature of the staging and choreography by Bill T Jones.

People staying in Lake District accommodation can purchase tickets for the screening for £12, although Zeffirellis also offers a movie deal that includes a meal in its restaurant for £26.95.

The screening is due to begin at 18:45 GMT.

More than 75 cinemas across the country are due to participate in National Theatre Live, as well as venues in Europe, South Africa, Australia and the US.
