FANNING POLYFORM FIGHTS BACK DESPITE
PRICE INCREASES HITTING HARD

Specialist plastics manufacturer Fanning Polyform is reporting surging growth despite massive price increases in raw material costs.

Fanning Polyform, which employs 70 people at its two sites in Hove, Sussex and Stone, Staffordshire has seen the cost of plastic rise by more that 40 per cent since last September. However the firm has had to absorb the cost increase, driven by oil prices, due to its long term pricing deals with some of Europe’s major construction and agricultural vehicle makers.

The rotational moulding market has bucked the national manufacturing trend by doubling in size in Europe in the past six years, whilst several plastics firms have been plunged into difficulty by the spiralling cost of crude oil.

Chris Fecher, Managing Director of Fanning Polyform, expects the firm to continue to expand despite the difficult market conditions. He said: “Our sites both perform highly efficiently. In particular our Stone site has grown at a rapid rate since we set up in 1994. In Stone, we have grown to 50,000 sq ft and we are keen to invest in further future growth.”

Whilst the cost of raw materials has risen by an all time high of 43% in the last nine months these costs have not been passed onto existing customers. But the firm, which manufactures dashboards, fuel tanks, body and roof panels for construction and agricultural vehicles and technical industrial mouldings, has seen turnover rise by a quarter to £6.5 million in the past three years.

Chris Fecher continues: “This particular method of moulding has grown significantly in the past few years but we have done better than most. It is fair to say that we owe the success of our company to the quality product and service that we offer our customers.”

Currently two-thirds of its annual revenues are generated at the Stone site with the remainder from its second plant in Sussex.
