~It’s Just Lunch survey reveals talking on cell phone and being rude to wait staff rank as top pet peeves of singles~
San Diego, CA, October 7, 2005— In observation of National Pet Peeve Week, October 9-15, 2005, It’s Just Lunch, the premier dating service for busy professionals, with over 85 locations worldwide, has released survey results on the dating pet peeves of singles in the United States. According to a survey of 1,363 singles, It’s Just Lunch found that 46% say their biggest pet peeve is when their date answers their cell phone during a meal and another 41% think being rude to the wait staff of a restaurant is a major no-no.
The survey found that 26% of men and 37% of women say one of their pet peeves is when their date talks too much and only about themselves. Men and women also agree that it’s better not to talk about your “ex” on a first date, 30% say it’s the quickest way to not get a second date. Singles also think that the best first date conversations consist of getting to know what the other person likes and dislikes and what their hobbies are.
“Everyone has pet peeves when it comes to dating, men and women seem to agree that it is a turn-off when their date talks only about themselves,” say Andrea McGinty, founder of It’s Just Lunch. “You have to show your date you are interested in them and what they have to say. Listening is just as important as talking on a date, remember it’s a date, not an interview.”
It’s Just Lunch found that men and women also have different dating pet peeves. 45% of single men dislike when their date talks about her weight or newest diet and 56% of women say they hate when their date is more interested in the waitress than them and shows it. When it comes to hygiene and appearance, 42% of men and 53% of women dislike when there date is un-groomed. 59% of singles agree that bad body odor is their biggest hygiene turn-off.
The survey also found that 71% of men would accept a second date with a woman even if she displayed one of his pet peeves. However, women are not as forgiving; only 42% would attempt a repeat date in the same situation. And, do you yourself have any bad habits on dates? 56% of men claim no bad habits, while 23% of women feel they interrupt in conversations.
