8 Great Country Race Meetings on Melbourne Cup Day

Everyone loves the Melbourne cup, but did you know there are 8 great Country race meetings that take place on the same day? As the nation stops to watch Australia's most famous race on Tuesday, many people will be enjoying a relaxing day at the country races in victoria.

There are eight country meetings throughout Victoria that patrons can attend – Echuca, Moe, Bairnsdale, Horsham, Mildura, Wangaratta, Wodonga and picnic racing at Mansfield.

1. Echuca Moama Bowling Club's Melbourne Cup Day Races

Hosting the TAB race meeting is Echuca Racing Club, where pre-sold packages are up and the Club is anticipating a stellar crowd with fine weather forecast for the region.
"The Young Members marquee continues to grow via the popular Facebook channel, which has accelerated our take up on young memberships greatly," Club Manager Garry Armstrong said.
On course there will also be Fashions on the Field and kids' entertainment.

2. Melbourne Cup Day at Moe

Last year's Moe Racing Club Melbourne Cup day meeting attracted a massive crowd and this year's date promises to be even bigger following the success of the Moe Cup meeting earlier in the Spring.
On course there will be a big screen host, live music, free kids' activities and Fashions on the Field competitions.


3. Dahlsens Melbourne Cup Day at Bairnsdale

At Bairnsdale family and friends enjoy a thorough day of racing, fun and fashion when the horses grace the turf on Tuesday. The Fashions on the Field competition winner will also be entered into the lucrative Country's Best Dressed Racegoer Spring Heat where the ultimate winner will jet off to Hong Kong for 5 days.
"The Bairnsdale Racing Club has been conducting a race day event on Melbourne Cup for over 30 years and the day has grown to be the biggest party day in Gippsland," Club Manager Alanna Pomeroy said.


4.Horsham Telstra Store Melbourne Cup Day

Horsham is seeking to establish its race meeting as a must attend tradition within the community, as people relish the family-friendly environment.
"With the day being a public holiday it's the perfect reason to get out of the house and come and enjoy a great day at the races," Wimmera Racing Club Chief Executive Officer Karen Thomas said.
On course there will be Fashions on the Field, live music and a jumping castle to keep the kids' entertained.


5. Melbourne Cup Day at Mildura

With marquee bookings at record levels it is anticipated that one of the biggest events on the Mildura social calendar, the Cup Day races, looks set to be even bigger this year.
"Football Legends Anthony Koutafidis (Kouta) and Aussie Jones will be on course, plus live entertainment and top racing action, this is the place to be when the nation stops for the Melbourne Cup," Club Manager Aaron Garive said.
There will be a courtesy bus leaving from Centro and stopping along Deakin Ave then onto the racecourse. With Fashions on the Field, the categories include the Harvey World Travel 'Most Fashionable Raceday Outfit', Q Central Lady of the Day, Miss Centro, Mr Centro, All About Me Undergear 'Couple of the Course' and Junior Racegoer.


6. Melbourne Cup Day at Wangaratta

At Wangaratta patrons can enjoy the racing action from Flemington while relaxing in the spacious grounds of Wangaratta racecourse.
Wangaratta Club Manager Malcolm Hart said "It's our biggest day of the year in terms of crowd numbers; all we need is fine weather to ensure a bumper crowd as we have sold out of marquee and umbrella packages".

7. Melbourne Cup Day at Wodonga

Wodonga & District Turf Club joins the Cup Day action for the first time. Club Manager Brad Thomas said "the club is absolutely thrilled to be racing on Melbourne Cup Day, it will serve as a great lead up event into the SS&A Wodonga Cup at the end of the month" The club will have live music, fashions on the field and plenty of free kid's entertainment.

8. Mansfield Picnic Cup

Otherwise you can celebrate Melbourne Cup Day in the high country at the Mansfield Picnic Cup, with the picturesque course situated just outside Mansfield town centre. There will be a six-race card, Fashions on the Field and local food and wine to sample.
