VoteAmerica2010.org Launched in 50 States

Fairfield, CT October 14, 2010 — VoteAmerica2010.org went live today across 50 states, providing voters with unbiased election information, from candidate bios, positions and voting records, to a poll locator feature to find out where to vote. Campaign donors and candidate ratings by interest groups are also featured, as are explanations of state ballot initiatives.

Created by AmericanTowns.com, which provides community-focused websites for 15,000 towns across America, VoteAmerica2010 brings together local election information and voter guide from independent public sources like the League of Women Voters; Vote411.org and the Vote Smart project, as well as regional bloggers, local opinion, the web and the candidates themselves.

If voters can find out what the candidates really stand for and what they have done in their professional/political lives, they can make better-informed decisions while ignoring the distortions of paid political advertising. "Reliable, organized election information is the antidote to the money-fueled negative ad campaigns that characterize too much of American politics," said AmericanTowns chairman Ted Buerger. "If voters can find out what the candidates really stand for and what they have done in their professional/political lives, they can make better-informed decisions while ignoring the distortions of paid political advertising."
In addition to providing information on the major candidates, the site invites voters to "help your neighbors of all parties understand the election by sharing your views of the candidates and the issues". A civil tone is encouraged, but a wide range of political views are welcomed.

The VoteAmerica2010.org site provides similar information for other states, covering all races for US Senate, House of Representatives, Governor and state wide offices, state house races (e.g. assembly and state senate) and ballot initiatives. "VoteAmerica is AmericanTowns' latest initiative to help people find and share the local information most important to them and their families," explained Jim Maglione, AmericanTowns' Co-President - Community. "And what is more important than our right to vote, and our civic duty to be an informed voter?"
