Car Hire Donated by Carrentals.co.uk To help Raise Over £4,500 for 3 Legged 3 Peak Event For Diabetes UK

October 11, 2010 – Car hire has been donated by leading car hire price comparison site Carrentals.co.uk. The donation has been given to help three volunteers raise money for Diabetes UK. The trio have raised an impressive £4,500 from climbing, three-legged, some of the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales.

Anne Bentley, Steven Craig and Claire Moon, where the three volunteers who took part in the fundraiser, and who also have diabetes. The trio have been helping the charity for more than 15 years, with the most recent challenge being to raise money for care support holidays for Diabetes UK, especially for children with the condition. Linked to the donation is MD Gareth Robinson, who has expressed a personal connection with the charity as his own daughter of 13 years has type 1 diabetes.

Gareth comments, "As my daughter has been diagnosed with the condition type 1 diabetes, the cause is one that lies close to my heart. I know that it is very important for families and children to have the support they need to help manage diabetes, this I really wanted to be involved in sponsoring the trio to raise this great amount of money for Diabetes UK."

Ann, Steven and Claire completed the even in a total of five days, and climbed Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike. The three challengers started in Scotland, then headed south to Cumbria and finished their challenge on top of Snowdon.

Claire Moon, who is part of the trio, said, "Myself, Ann and Steven knew of our condition from a very young age, and have been helping Diabetes UK for several years now, specifically helping them run the care holidays. The care holidays are only funded through donations the charity receive, but this year we have not had as many donations so less holidays have been arranged. This is the reason we took the challenge, as we could raise money that would go towards keeping the holidays running. Care holidays are important as they provide important respite for children, so they can see that they are not the only children with the condition and meet other kids with type 1 diabetes."

Care holidays with Diabetes UK help kids who have type 1 diabetes come to better terms with their condition, as they can spend their free time with other children with the same condition. Type 1 diabetes could lead to children having up to seven injections for the rest of their life as well as a constant stream of blood glucose test. Should their condition not be correctly managed long term health problems such as blindness and kidney damage could arise
