These proceedings will be given an extra festive feel thanks to the presence of golden LED decorations suspended from the streetlights in the area and draped over the trees lining the Alte Potsdamer Strasse.

The ice rink will be open daily from 10:00 until 21:30 local time, except on Saturdays when visitors can skate until 23:30.

People who do not own their skates can still join in the fun, as a pair can be rented for just €2.50 (£2).

Various booths around the site will be open throughout, offering a fine selection of hearty warm food and local sweet delicacies which should be perfect for anyone who has worked up an appetite during their time on the ice.
