San Francisco - Debt solutions expert, Kenneth Priore, of New Leaf Financial, (www.newleafdebt.com), urges Congress to consider Bankruptcy relief for Katrina victims in the wake of the new law set to go into effect on October 17th.Kenneth Priore, a California attorney and noted expert in debt settlement as well as other debt solutions said, “Congress has the perfect opportunity to erase the mistakes it made with the new Bankruptcy law. I applaud Russ Feingold (D-WI), for recognizing the importance of the safety net of Bankruptcy and the need for legislation such as the ‘Hurricane Katrina Bankruptcy Relief and Community Protection Act of 2005.’”
Mr. Priore noted that the situation faced by the people of Louisiana and Mississippi is unprecedented in our history. Mr. Priore states “Entire communities need to be reestablished and by the small business owner, not large corporations. This is about the guy on the corner store opening his shop. This is a big risk, one that is even more frightening to him if there is no one to help him stand up again if he falls.”
Priore further went on to say, “What the people of the Gulf States need is to rebuild the entire economic base that has been destroyed. By putting these proposed protections in place, Congress can encourage individuals to take chances, re-open business, create jobs, knowing that there is a safety net there. We should actively encourage this American ideal, not work to put mechanisms in place that seeks to punish those who take risks.”
Mr. Priore finalized his comments by stating, “Congress made some serious mistakes by passing this law, now they have an opportunity to make good. This proposed legislation is a good step -but really Congress should take a hard look at the new Bankruptcy law, especially in light of this disaster. If they do, then they will see that this new Bankruptcy law was not right for the American people.”
Before founding New Leaf Financial, a debt solutions company, Priore was a managing attorney for a third party litigation group for Charles Schwab, Inc. and counsel and chief compliance office to MVC Capital. Priore received his BA from Tufts University in 1991 and his JD from Tulane University in 1995.
