LateRooms.com - Open your mind at Madrid's New Realisms exhibit
July 24, 2010 (PRLEAP.COM) Travel News
LateRooms.com reports art lovers staying at Madrid hotels may wish to check out the New Realisms exhibition, particularly if they have an interest in the 1950s or 1960s.The full name of the show is 'New Realisms: 1957–1962. Object Strategies Between Readymade and Spectacle' and it is available to view until October 4th 2010.
Featuring art work by hugely important names such as George Brecht, Marcel Duchamp, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Whitman and Allan Kaprow among others, this display is not short of talent.
What it aims to do is shorten the timeframe being investigated and make connections between what artists were doing on both sides of the Atlantic during that period.
"[It] illuminates a turning point in the art of the second half of the 20th century – the point of rupture in the postwar period, which created the artistic conditions for what we know as 'the sixties'."
Visitors wishing just to see this temporary exhibition need only pay €3 (£2.53), while those who want to see the rest of the art displayed by the museum will be charged €6, unless they qualify for a concessionary price.
Opening hours are from 10:00 until 21:00 local time between Monday and Saturday, while the art space only stays open from 10:00 to 14:30 on Sundays and is shut on Tuesdays.
While they are visiting, tourists should be sure to check out the Mixed Use Manhattan display as well.
