"It will include some exciting, but traditional programmes … and some surprises. I think I can promise that 2010 will be a vintage year," he commented recently.

As well as the evening concerts, the festival will offer a daytime schedule of chamber music, opera, theatre, organ recitals, exhibitions and other special events.

There will also be late night jazz concerts in the Gloucester Guildhall, such as the August 14th event featuring the talents of the Stroman-Jonsson International Project.

With thousands of people expected to head to Gloucester for the festival, people seeking a Cotswold hotel are advised to book early.
