LateRooms.com divulges movie buffs who will be staying in accommodation in Melbourne towards the end of July should get themselves down to the opening night of the Melbourne International Film Festival.

Celebrating its 59th anniversary this year, the two-week event gets underway on July 22nd 2010 with a special screening of The Wedding Party, the debut work from director Amanda James, at the city's Regent Theatre.

Billed as a "fun-filled farce", the movie sees James carrying her camera into the centre of Melbourne to take a sideways look at family, love and the choices people make on a day-to-day basis.

Famous settings throughout the capital of Victoria can be seen in the film, including the Melbourne Cricket Ground, while the city's apparently "kinky underground" also makes an appearance.

A strong cast of Australian talent features in what has been described as a "vodka-sodden comedy", while the soundtrack includes the work of local musicians Claire Bowditch and J Walker.

As well as catching the screening of the film, people who step out from their accommodation in Melbourne to enjoy the first night of the festival will also get the opportunity to mingle with the stars when it finishes.

Some 185,000 people are expected to attend the various events which will make up the Melbourne International Film Festival.

For more information on this event visit the Melbourne International Film Festival website or contact the venue on +61 8660 4888.
