LateRooms.com - Race ahead with the Gold Coast Airport Marathon in Brisbane

LateRooms.com reports people staying in Brisbane hotels at the beginning of July may notice a few more sporty people around than usual.

This will more than likely be due to the Gold Coast Airport Marathon, which is taking place on July 3rd and 4th.

Last year's race saw more than 23,000 people take to the streets, although not all of them were competing over the marathon distance.

Organisers also offer those with less stamina the chance to get involved by running half marathon, 10km and 5km courses.

Depending on which race you decide to enter, fees will range from AU$80 up to AU$150.

If running that far seems like too much of an effort then you can always join the thousands of spectators who line the route to cheer the athletes on.

But be sure to set an alarm because the first races get underway at 06:00 (local time), with entrants in the full marathon lining up on the start line for 07:10.

Whether you are watching or running, there is bound to be an exciting atmosphere.

This year, organisers are celebrating the 2,500th anniversary of the first-ever marathon.
