WebAcceptance: intelligent web testing.
September 23, 2005 (PRLEAP.COM) Technology News
Today developers are more and more confronted with growing software complexity and a strong movement towards increased accountability. Moreover, they want to be sure that the product works as expected. They want to fine a defect in time and to solve it quickly.Customers care about measurable quality, development and operations risks. They want to know whether the development team is on track and what progress did it achieve. Did the development team really deliver everything they promised in the end?
WebAcceptance helps both parts to meet their needs. It measures the observable quality of web application, reports the real progress and tells a customer whether it works as expected.
WebAcceptance provides an easy way to write tests for checking the functionality at any desired level of complexity. It drives the Internet Explorer browser, not an emulator, the same way an end user would. It clicks links, fills in forms, presses buttons, validates table contents and does other typical business web application features.
The tool contains an "intelligent" command translator. Thus, rather than writing by programmer long JUnit test cases or crucial XML files, the manager or customer can write simple text scripts, describing required functionality. Each line of the script file will contain one command which is a test node. All commands inside one file will be processed as a test case. The syntax of every command is very simple, easy to learn and is very similar to spoken language. The script is translated to a needed command language to operate. Several scripts can be combined to a test suite. The results are written either to the console, a file or as a HTML page.
WebAcceptance was developed by team of programmers and testers at SoftAge. It is currently under active development by SoftAge’s team. Automated tests fit snugly into the build process and are used with a continuous integration platform.
The effect is tremendous: to the quality of the system, to the satisfaction of the customer and to the motivation and self-esteem of the development crew.
