May 28, 2010 (PRLEAP.COM) Travel News
AsiaRooms.com reports anyone who is staying in Kuta hotels during June should take the time to spend a day at the Bali Arts Festival. In particular, those who want to see something of Bali's interesting history should consider visiting Denpasar on June 23rd for the performance of the Betawi masked dance.
Originating in Jakarta, this form of expression has links with several different cultures, including the Dutch and Portuguese communities which once inhabited this part of the island.
According to Indonesia-tourism.com, the Betawi culture is influenced by Islam, which can be seen through the use of certain musical styles - such as the Rebana orchestra and the Gambus orchestra.
The performance of the Betawi masked dance will take place at the Bali Arts Festival between 10:00 and 12:00 (local time) in Wantilan.
Visitors will also see the None Tugu dance and Silat Beksi as part of the show if they attend this event.
For anyone who wants to see more of the dancing for which the Balinese are famous, there are further performances of different dances and music throughout the day.
A Calonarang dance is one of the other activities scheduled for June 23rd, as well as a Balinese song exhibition.
