LateRooms.com can announce that art lovers staying at hotels in Madrid this summer could be in for a treat, since the Museo Nacional del Prado is poised to open Turner and the Masters on June 22nd.This exhibition which features 80 paintings borrowed from various prestigious art spaces across the world, could provide the uninitiated with a crash course in the work of JMW Turner.
However, the venue has suggested the display could also prove fascinating to people who know and love the painter, as it offers a new angle on his art.
What the show aims to create is a dialogue between some of the masterpieces in Turner's oeuvre - such as Shade and Darkness. The Eve of the Flood, and Light and Colour. The Morning after the Flood - and the art of the Old Masters.
The organisers remarked: "The exhibition looks at the way that Turner produced his work in full awareness of the art of the great Old Masters, whom he studied in depth, while simultaneously paying attention to the artistic activity of a number of his contemporaries."
Some of the artists that are connected to Turner in this way include Rembrandt and Claude Lorraine.
Entrance to the Museo Nacional Del Prado costs €8 (£6.80) and the museum is open from 09:00 to 20:00 Tuesdays to Sundays.
For more information on this event visit the museum's website or contact the venue on +34 91 330 2800.
