Industry Leader Steps In To Help Car Repair Consumers

Nearly 30,000* people complained about garages in the UK last year and everyone has a scare story to tell about getting ripped off when it comes to car servicing and repairs to the extent that the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) launched an investigation into the industry back in 1999. Six years on from the start of the investigation, and with the industry still waiting for the OFT findings, the UK’s largest independent retailer of reconditioned car parts has stepped in to help consumers by setting up a “Good Garages” online search facility.
The company called BBA-Reman has been encouraging the garages to which it supplies parts to register on the Good Garages section of its own website http://www.bba-reman.com . Once garages are registered they can ask their customers to leave feedback on the site so that other people in that area looking for car servicing and repairs can find a good garage.
All people need to do is log onto http://www.bba-reman.com and click on the “Good Garages” button to find a recommended garage in their area.
The idea is the brainchild of BBA-Reman owner and managing director Chris Swan who commented, “The industry has been crying out for someone totally independent to come along and champion the rights of car drivers and its great to see that already so many garages have signed up to the free and voluntary service and we obviously encourage the garages that have nothing to hide to come along and sign up”.
He went on, “From speaking to many of the owners of the garages who have already signed up it is really clear that they too want to eradicate the image of rogue car servicing and repairs and I believe that this new service will help achieve that goal”.
Keith Miller of Scotts Garage in Brighton has signed up said, “Anything that helps the industry image to move forward is good and we encourage our customers to leave feedback”.
Good Garages already has 163 garages registered from across the whole UK with more joining every week. The majority of the garages taking part are registered on the BBA-Reman forum where vehicle owners can discuss their car problems with professionals free of charge before taking them to a garage.
There is no fee to pay for garages or customers to sign up and leave feedback and for a limited period there are retail vouchers on offer to encourage people to leave feedback about their local garage.
In order to ensure accuracy and fairness, where negative comments are posted by customers the garages have 24 hours to respond to enquiries before the post is made public. On top of this all posts are verified to make sure they are genuine.
