LateRooms.com reports art lovers with a penchant for Henri Rousseau creations may wish to head to the Museo Guggenheim Bilbao, where a temporary exhibition of the legendary French artist's work will be displayed.Beginning on May 25th 2010 and running until September 12th, the show is a centenary celebration of the painter's death in 1910, which will offer people staying at hotels in Bilbao a comprehensive experience of Rousseau's career.
The venue describes his work as "almost childlike" and noted that many of the new innovations of his day - he lived from 1844 to 1910 - are present in his work.
"Rousseau's work reveals his love of exotic themes and journeys-which, oddly, he never took-through landscapes or lush vegetation, as well as portraits of the natives of distant colonies or the traditional customs of French society," remarked the organisers.
Attendees of this wonderful exhibit will be treated to about 40 of his masterpieces, including his depictions of Paris, in addition to the jungle scenes that he created later on in his life.
An example of the work that people will be able to see at the art space is The Hungry Lion throws itself on the Antelope, which is an oil painting on a 200 x 300 cm canvas.
Opening hours at the Museo Guggenheim Bilbao are Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00 (local time), with entrance costing €13 (£11.48).
If you're heading to the Henri Rousseau exhibit this year, we strongly advise that you book your hoteles en Bilbao as soon as possible, given the huge popularity of the event.
