Bruce Panico To Manage Restoration Project At Historic Rough Point Mansion

The Historic Rough Point Mansion former summer home of the Duke family now the head office for the Newport Restoration Foundation will receive repairs and restoration to the north elevation.Bruce Panico has been with the Joseph Gnazzo Co. Inc. since 1982 when he started as a mason tender to make extra money during his summers off from college. Quickly rising in experience and skill he was promoted to foreman in 1986 when he became a full time employee. In 1988 he was moved to the position of supervisor. As the company grew so did the need for the companies first full time project manager which was a natural fit for Bruce. He will oversee all facets of the historic project ensuring the highest quality repairs and tight budget control.
The repairs will include masonry cleaning, removal of coping stones, installation of new through wall flashings, dismantling of the ashlar stone at the gable peaks, repointing the gables elevations 100%, and installation of new structural steel support beams.
Fredrick W. Vanderbilt built the vast English Style Manor in 1889. In 1922 he sold it to James B. Duke the benefactor of Duke University. In 1925 upon his death he left his vast fortunes and mansions to his twelve year old daughter Doris Duke. Upon her passing in 1993 she bequeathed Rough Point to the Newport Restoration Foundation.
